Meaning first year of year over university is over too. And just year ago I was greduating from school and I was thinking where will I be this year and what will I be doing. I am scared that  one day I will wake up and I will be graduating from university, the long path of studying will be over as well. Time is passing by so fast.

The 2007 EuroVision song contest in Helsinki there was 24 countries finalist. Ukraine was there already thank to Tina Karol last year who took seventh place. This year Ukraine sent Verka Serduchka, a gay singer guy. Ukraine performed 18th.  Verka did great; she pumped up the whole concert whole with her fast, rhythmic song, which you can easy sing a long. There were many roomers that Ukraine will win, because many countries said that they will support her even before the contest. But this was not meant to be because Ukraine simply could not effort it. In 2012 Ukraine is hosting World Cup. And right Ukraine has to concentrate on building hotels and many other things in order to prepare for that. We were leading the chart for a while then Serbia slowly started catching up and eventually won. Their really deserved the price, their song was great it called The Prayer. It was filled with meaning and emotion unlike our song. I also believe this contest is more of a political thing. Because it was obvious when some countries announced their votes and the majority of votes was given to counties that they had or have conflict with and pretty much hate each other. But still it also gave people joy and happiness. Congratulations to Nikola!!! Good Job!!! J

Yesterday in Business English class we had a speaker come over to talk to us about different types of cards and credit system in U.S. I can’t recall his name because it was very long and hard to pronounce. But he seemed like a very nice and smart guy. I was actually amazed how serious he took this class. He prepared presents for everyone and one present for finalist student. How it worked is that he asked questions and who new the answer and answered correctly got a card. And towards the end who had more cards got the price. That person was me :)! I received a silver American Eagle bullion coin. The coin was designed by Adolph A. Weinman. Originally this coin was used in 1916-47. It’d made out of 99.93% silver and 0.07% copper. And its diameter is 40.5mm with reeded edge and its weight is 31.101 grams.

Today I was walking from university home and I saw two old grandpas dressed up in the uniform on the street. They were veterans of World War II. Their uniform was full of medals. I even stop for a second to have a look at them. When I look in their eyes I saw kind tired eyes filled with horrors of war. I smiled at them and they smiled back. These couples of days before the Victory Day there are many war movies are shown. And there was also this TV show something similar to our History Maters event. In this show there were many people interviewed who survived World War II. Those people told their stories, went back to places where they grew up and where war caught them. They also showed many family album pictures. It was very interesting and emotional TV Show!

I have another weird story to share with you. Last weekend my mom went to Rome. On the way back, after boarding was finished, some strange guy ran into the airplane and through some bag and ran away. The staff of the plane though that it was a bomb. Everybody including my mom was evacuated the passengers from the plane. After the luggage was taken away from the plane as well. My mother and other passengers were put on the other plane and safely came back to Kiev. We still don’t know if there really was a bomb. I was so shocked bomb in Rome. Now anywhere you go it’s not safe anymore.

Children in the Cage

Children in the Cage this is the name of TV show that I just watched. The tile of the TV show straight forward reflects what this TV show is about. It’s about children whose parents are alcoholics and don’t take care about them. There was this girl who became a dog. I mean she lived with dogs in the forest, didn’t talk, couldn’t walk properly and ate from the ground. One grandpa from the village where this girl is from said, “There was dead chicken already with warms laying on the ground and saw this dog girl run up to it and she graded this dead chicken and ate it”. There was boy called Sasha 7 years old boy in the TV show. His father used to put him in the dog chain so he wouldn’t run away. He almost never got fad. He slept with chi8kens sometimes. Sasha learned how to look for food by himself when she was only six years old. There was other incident when a father kept his daughter in the cage for 14 years. After his wife had died he put his daughter in the cage. She had only one dress and never wore shoes. She couldn’t properly stand because she is sitting all the time. And when police came to take her away to the orphanage he started crying and saying that she will feel bad there with strange people. He asked police not to take her away because she has everything; she is always fed and loved by her father. How mentally sick can those people, parents be? It’s unbelievable how people can be so mean and not caring to their own children, even after their children are being taken away they still not trying to change. Or when police comes they still try to prove them that children have everything that they need for living. Some of those parents admitted they that kept children because they get financial aid from the government. One ‘mother’ said, “You take away those kids and I will give birth to more because I need money.”

The day that all of us had been waiting for so long and stressed so much about went by like one moment. And it’s upsetting because we put so much time and effort in this and it just went by like this. Overall everything went fine. There were no misunderstandings, all of us were organized and spoke well. But it was so cold in the auditorium that when I had to get up and talk I was all shaking not because I was nervous but because I was frozen 🙂 While I was speaking together with Mike I look at the audience and I saw many people were yawning and looked like they were really bored. I think they didn’t really catch the point that we were trying to prove them. To us it’s very understandable and close topic but for many people out there it’s not. Thank you Mrs. Gray for doing such great job and putting so much time and effort in History Matters! And thank you guys, I believe all of us did great job and learn some lessons for future. P.S. Great pictures at the photo contest!

My PowerPoint presentation will be mostly based on women pilots (Marina Raskova and how she inspred many other women to become piltos ) and maybe a little bit what women did during war time, how they helped men on the front. From the Ebscohost I have found one article where there are many pictures of women pilots next to their airplanes. I believe there are around 10 pictures and I will use most of them. In my previous blog I already wrote some of the quotes that I will use from the articles.

From the Ebscohost I have sent six articles to myself where are found a lot of useful information. And that even made me change my research paper topic. The title of my paper will be ‘Women’s Role in World War II’. In my paper I will explain what women did during the war and how they helped to win it. I will also talk about women pilots. And after everything women still stayed wives, mothers, sisters, and daughters. The thesis statement might be ‘The World War i would not have been won without women’s enormous contribution’.  I will also use the interview with my grandma and Anna widow that came to our class.
